Poppy

Well, it has happened. Poppy took his last breath at 3:35 this morning. I'm so glad I got to see him in a coherent few moments on Friday night, and got to see him again last night to wish him farewell.

He wasn't famous, or rich. He wasn't a celebrity. He was my hero, though. He helped me through some painful times, and celebrated my joys and accomplishments as if they were his. My dad taught me so much.

I wrote a poem to him and about him; when I find it I'll post it. He was a very, very good man.

Your father and my older brother was also my hero. As a child I looked up to him because he always seemed to know what to do in the time of trouble. When storms raged in our childhood with family problems he was the one that was there for our mother until her death. When he sailed the seas of life as a sailor and a man of the world > I dreamed of what his life was like and wanted to be just like him. We went our separate ways for several years. He on one side of the country and me on the other, neither knowing where the other was. Then one day we found each other again and it was a day of great joy. We had each established ourselves, had a family and were comfortable with our lives. Now that we were older I was taller than him but I still looked up to him with pride. He was an example of “Living is a gift, make the best of it” and he did just that.
Now that he has reached the end of this life he will set sail on another adventure that will take him to a destination unknown to us but we are told, and believe, it is a place more beautiful than anyone on this earth has ever seen. It will be a place where there is no sunset and he will be able to sail for eternity with his lovely wife, friends and love ones.
I am deeply sadden by the lost of my only brother but I also find peace of mind in the fact that he suffers no more. Aunt Amanda and I feel your pain and agony and we pray for your ability to withstand yet another heartbreak. We know you are strong hearted and your mom and dad would expect you to take charge and carry on from where they left off. It is your time to be the family commander.

With Sympathy & Love,

Uncle Cliff & Aunt Amanda

Cliff and Amanda,
It sounds like your brother went ahead again, this time to make sure everything is right when his beloved family comes home. What a blessing he was to ya'll.
You have our deepest sympathy for your lose. It is his gain but we as humans are to feel hurt and tears are great to wash away that hurt. The memories your family have of your brother are something you will have all your life. May God Bless each of you and comfort you at this time.
God Bless
Joyce

Cliff,
My heart goes out to you and also to your niece. May God be with you both in this time, but as you said in your letter, He is going to a better place. God Bless,
Judy
