Working Woman!
The Working Woman
Yup—that’s me. Er, I am the Working Woman. At least they asked me to come back after my first week.
And, guess what?! I am so very much loving life right now!! The group of people with whom I interact daily seem truly happy about their lives and their work. That surprises me, since I don’t recall that being the case at other positions, either government or private sector organizations.
I am a Programs Coordinator, and I guess that means that I coordinate the programs of our department. We are a part of the University College of Extension Services (UCES), the Center for International Trade and Transportation.
We produce the certificate and Master’s degree programs in International Trade and Transportation, notably, the certificate for Global Logistics Specialists (GLS), and the Master of Arts in Global Logistics (MAGL).
I supervise four student assistants at various times through the process. Last week I got to meet all four of them, and they are all so capable and smart! They help however they can, they didn’t resent (at least outwardly) having to teach me what they do, they are all likable, and are very good students.
So, we five, or six, counting our director, coordinate all the instructors, schedules of classes, rooms, course materials, course catalog entries, attendance and grades, some amount of hand holding, and directing prospective students to the person(s) they need in order to get a good understanding of the programs, by phone and email and sometimes in person. We have a great number of International students; some are from China, Japan, India, various parts of the Middle East and Europe. I haven’t met many of them yet, but I’m sure I will sometime during the course of the next year or so.
Everyone who works here has a great sense of humor, and they don’t seem to mind my lame jokes. I have even got a few real laughs.
So, here I am, getting warmed up for work, and hoping for another day of learning new things.
Take Care all, I’ll be back when I can.

I knew they would ask you to come back after the first week. I'm glad you are enjoying your new job. How are things on the homefront? Are the girls adjusting well to you being gone more? Has Scott started his new job yet and how is that going?
