About the Job Interview

The thank you note has been sent, and calculations made...

As an example...I calculated the amount of taxes, child care, clothing, dining out, fuel, car insurance we would pay if I worked full time at this job. Now I realize it's not usually "kosher" to discuss salaries, but this

IF my starting gross salary was $45,000/year...which is actually mid-range for the salary offered, the numbers would look like this:

45000.00
gross salary

13500.00
less 30% tax (prox)

31500.00
net salary

-10000.00
less child care-Emily

-6250.00
less before & after school care-Sarah
15250.00

-1250.00
less travel costs (based on 150 miles/week, 50 weeks, 15 mpg, $2.5/gallon)

14000.00

2400.00
clothing costs: stockings shoes & inexpensive yet hopefully fashionable outfits.

11600.00

Annual

take home

967.00
actual monthly income

It appears to nearly make this job "worth it"--but then, as my dear husband mentioned, who would take the kids to their after school activities--piano, gymnastics, soccer/softball, cooking, tennis, girl scout activities, etc?

We'd have to nearly hire a nanny or au pair, and that would spend the other $900/month, I'm sure.

Oh well...it was a great interview, and gave me a lot of confidence that I can interview again when the opportunity arises. Also, there still is the tutoring job, for which child care will be minimal, as I set the time where I can tutor.

It looks like you didn’t read the comment that I wrote when you first said you were going to look around for work!!!!! You only touched the tip of the iceberg on your cost. You didn’t include the times you would have to be out to take the kids to the DR., the wear and tear on the auto and all the hidden cost that pop up (poppy)…. I promise you, after a few months working for someone else - you would welcome being back home with the kids and working for yourself again…. The work force stress is far from what it used to be.

Thanks for taking us on your trip. It was almost like being there. We have “been there and done that” so many times we could see and feel the excitement as you described it.

How did poppy break his teeth?? Hope he didn’t get into a fight with an older man>>>

Keep the bat in your hands and swing at everything that comes your way and a homerun will surely come your way.

We are still trying to get the time to see “Chickin’ Little”. Jamie tells us it was really good and they saw Uncle Scott’s name at the end. Tell Scott we are very-very proud of him…

Yes, I really did read both of your comments! I completely agree! However, one member of this household needed to calculate it for himself and come to that same conclusion on his own, therefor he needed to see the calculations again.

Poppy broke his teeth on simple food. Would have been a great story if he'd been fighting with someone! He needs to have them completely removed, but is in so much pain from a fall that he has trouble getting in and out of his wheelchair let alone an auto. He's back in the hospital, too. I'll write another blog entry about that.

Swinging getting weaker...
